Hello this is Chris.
Found this question on twitter recently:
Noticed that the cat has been enjoying my furniture after all. Anyone have any good leather repair ideas?
Here was another recent tweet w/ a picture of a dog next to it:
@Aggerscricket we scratch the leather sofas with our claws!
The scratches look something like those in the picture to the right:
To get this scratch to disappear you probably need a leather pro. But if your happy with something that looks better and won’t fray, try this do-it-yourself technique:
Supplies–
- Matching leather color-coat w/ rub-coat additive. Here are the leather color-coat and rub-coat we recommend, Advanced Leather Solutions Professional Products
- a pin,
- small bristle paint brush with a round handle,
- soft cloth,
- craft glue,
- a hair dryer
Steps:
1. Color the white areas of the leather with a leather touch-up paint or pen that is close to the color of your leather. It doesn’t have to be perfect because you will be sealing over the leather in a later step.( If you don’t have leather paint you can use a bit of watercolor paint to darken the scratches)
2. Peel back the tiny flaps created in the scratches with a pin.
3. put a small ammount of craft glue into the scratch.
4. turn around the brush and roll the round edge of the brush against the scratch, closing the flap and sealing the scratch shut
5. Dampen the soft cloth and wipe in the direction of the scratch to get off any excess glue. Press firmly to set the scratch flaps in place.
6. You may air dry or dry with a hair dryer to speed dry time.
Hope this helps. I will add a video on this technique soon. Let me know if you have any questions.
